Physiotherapy Education Capacity Building Project in Central Vietnam

- Ensuring the sustainability of rehabilitation therapy through education of the local community

  • Direct Beneficiaries: 20 participants of the Physiotherapist Training Program, 60 participants of the Community Rehabilitation Therapy Training Program, 10 participants of the Training of Local Trainers Program, 10 therapists from rehabilitation centers selected for provision of rehabilitation equipment
  • Indirect Beneficiaries: Patients visiting rehabilitation service provision facilities, Quang Tri province government employees, Quang Tri Medical College faculty
  • Project Region: Quang Tri province, Vietnam
  • Background
    Quang Tri, the central region of Vietnam, appears to have a shortage of physiotherapists, as there was a lack of a sufficient quality of treatment to satisfy demands. To ensure sustainability of rehabilitation therapy, Medipeace has conducted the Physiotherapy Education Capacity Building Project in association with Quang Tri Medical College to strengthen the capacity of local physiotherapists.
  • Goals: To build a fundamental rehabilitation system for people with disabilities in central Vietnam
  • Activities
    - Development of education curriculum and teaching material for Quang Tri Medical College
    - Implementing a Physiotherapist Training program
    - Capacity building for faculty of Quang Tri Medical College
    - Supporting the rehabilitation equipment base on local health and medical system
    - Dispatching rehabilitation equipment experts
  • Expected Impact: High quality rehabilitation service can be delivered to those with disabilities within local community by strengthening the capacity of service providers and improving facilities.
